Gay In the City: A Celebration of Gay Life,” a book signing and reading by Stephanie Adams and Christopher David. Stephanie Adams is the first Playboy Centerfold to come “out” as a lesbian and is also the founder of Goddessy.com and Sapphica.com, in addition to writing a series of seven books published about astrology, new age, spirituality, and metaphysics. Christopher David’s “I’m On My Way” reflects a true depiction of a 21st century black gay man living in New York City. The novel is an emotional roller coaster filled with many twists and turns. 7 p.m., Creative Visions Bookstore.

Author Alex Garland will make his first New York City appearance this season for a reading of his new book, “The Coma,” a psychological drama that takes the reader on a surreal journey exploring the boundaries of consciousness. Garland will be available to sign books and answer questions after the reading. Garland was born in England in 1970. In addition to “The Coma,” he is the author of the novels “The Beach” (1997) and “The Tesseract” (1999), as well as the original screenplay for the film “28 Days Later.” He was chosen by Entertainment Weekly as one of the 100 hottest people in entertainment in 1999, and as one of Time Out’s “People to Watch” in 1997. He lives in London. Admission is free, but donated books are welcomed and encouraged. 7 p.m., Housing Works Used Book Café.

David Carter, the author of “Stonewall: Six Days that Transformed a Political Movement,” and a panel including Stonewall Riot participants Jerry Hoose, Tommy Lanigan-Schmidt, Danny Garvin and Martin Boyce will discuss the implications of Carter’s scholarship on our understanding of the historic events of June 1969 in Greenwich Village. 7 p.m., Barnes and Noble Chelsea.
