Staten Island Political Club Debut Dinner

Staten Island Stonewall, a new lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Democratic club serving the borough, held its first dinner Saturday, January 8 at Patricio’s Restaurant in Stapleton.

A crowd of 65 heard a keynote address by state Assmemblyman Daniel O’Donnell, who talked about his experiences as the first out gay man in the Assembly, joining veteran lesbian Assemblywoman Deborah Gick and gay state

Sen. Tom Duane in Albany. The Upper West Side Democrat also outlined his thoughts on the future of the LGBT political drive.

On the left, Assemblyman John Lavelle, the Staten Island Democratic chair, is joined by Jim Smith, a Staten Island Stonewall co-founder, newly elected state Sen. Diane Savino, Assemblymen O’Donnell and Michael Cusick and Chris Bauer, another Staten Island co-founder. To the right, Bauer, who has long been active in gay politics in Staten Island and city and statewide, addresses the gathering, flanked by Smith and Savino.
