Shane...even though time has passed I know how much it hurts am so sorry for your loss. I was in a relationship for fifteen years and know how much loving someone and being loved means in every way. The loss you have suffered should not have been made more real by the insensitivity and hostility you experienced from Tom's family, and I'm sure, others. We must continue the fight for equality and equal rights. This is not an issue of who is right or wrong; it is an issue of love, acceptance, and the right to be with the person we choose. Any person who has the hate in their hearts that you've experienced needs to hear that message. My relationship ended abruptly as well and I have since experienced the same things you have from even my own family, recently being told I was no longer a part of it forever. There is so much hate, fear, bigotry and ignorance in this world that needs to be exposed and changed...so much work to do yet. (cont'd)

(cont'd) Please, I know how hard it is to have these memories keep coming up every time you see a picture, hear somebody say something, meet friends or see something that reminds you of him...but keep moving forward and use your life experiences to help make those changes. I'm sure Tom is very proud of you and is watching over you now. Please accept my sincerest wishes for a way through this and my hearfelt sympathies for your loss. Tom meant the world to you and you should know that your loss is ours as well. I blog LGBTQ issues and am an activist for equal rights. I am passing your video along wherever I can to help spread the word that now is the time for attitudes to change, for people to know that we are not different, that we are not going to go away, and that we demand equality in every way.
