The PrEP Panel convenes November 20 at 6:30 p.m. | ZACH WICHTER

The question of whether to use pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP — regular drug treatment aimed at preventing transmission of the HIV virus — faces all HIV-negative, sexually active people, but especially gay and bisexual men who are outside of a monogamous relationship. The National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association, in partnership with Gay Men’s Health Crisis, will host a public forum on PrEP and how good a job the media is doing exploring the pluses and minuses of this therapeutic breakthrough.

The panel’s participants are:

• Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, assistant health commissioner, NYC Bureau of HIV/ AIDS Prevention and Control

• Anthony Hayes, managing director of public affairs and policy, GMHC

• Tim Murphy, freelance writer, New York Magazine

• Mathew Rodriguez, community editor, TheBody.com

• Benjamin Ryan, editor-at-large, POZ Magazine

• Vaughn Taylor-Akutagawa, executive director, Gay Men of African Descent

The panel, moderated by Paul Schindler, Gay City News’ editor-in-chief, takes place on Thursday, November 20 at 6:30 p.m., in GMHC’s Peter Krueger dining room, 446 West 33rd Street.

Details are on the PrEP Panel page on Facebook.
