The Tyler Clementi Foundation, founded in memory of the New Jersey college freshman who died from suicide in 2010 after suffering a humiliating episode of cyber-bullying by his roommate and which works to end bullying, harassment, and humiliation in schools, the workplace, and other settings, held its annual Upstander Legacy Celebration on October 23.

The event, held at Stage 48 in Hell’s Kitchen, honored longtime LGBTQ activist David Mixner, who recently announced he is retiring from his current advocacy efforts, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, the interior design company whose corporate philanthropy has benefited a wide array of LGBTQ initiatives and other charitable causes.

Actor Bryan Batt (“Mad Men”) presented Mixner with his award, while Former Second Lady Tipper Gore presented the award to Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams.

The Tyler Clementi Foundation’s Upstander Movement aims to win pledges from Americans to speak out against bullying wherever they encounter it — at school, at work, in houses of worship, or online.
