On Friday evening, NY1 News reported that City Councilmember Ruben Diaz, Sr. told a Spanish-language program, “When I get to the City Council, I find that the City Council is controlled — most councilmembers out of 51 councilmembers — over there, everybody is controlled by the homosexual community.”

Diaz, who has a long history of anti-LGBTQ statements and votes, faced widespread condemnation for his remarks, including from his own son, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr.

On Saturday evening, Gay City News editor-in-chief Paul Schindler spoke to PIX11 News about Diaz’s comments. Watch the report here.
